Belief in the mix
For many people, how and what they believe is a matter of personal choice. They choose for themselves which elements of different religions they wish to adopt. In their quest for meaning, belonging and inspiration, people are increasingly mixing elements from different spiritual traditions. Rituals have become more important than dogma.
But religions, too, constantly intertwine, as these objects show. There are objects used by Jews, but which were inspired by Islam. And statues from South America and Oceania that mix Christian elements with native customs. Gods travel across the world in people’s wake and live on under a new name or in a new shape.
