Mens erger je niet! (Ludo)

2 to 4 players - ± 30 minutes - based on the official rules of Koninklijke Jumbo B.V.

Aim

The winner is the first player to take all four counters right around the board and then bring them home.

Setup

Each player chooses a colour and places their four counters on the four squares of that same colour at the edge of the board. The highest roll begins. With fewer than four players, one or more players take two colours.

Getting a counter onto the starting square

To be allowed to put a counter on your starting square, you have to roll a 6. If you do, place one counter on your starting square and roll again straight away, then move that counter the number of squares rolled. If you do not roll a 6, your turn passes on.

Playing on

Roll the die and move your counter as many squares as the number you rolled. Opponents' counters you pass on the way simply stay where they are; you count those squares as normal.

If you roll another 6, you may choose: carry on with a counter that is already on the board, or put a new counter on your starting square. You then roll again and choose which counter to move.

Capturing a counter

If you end your move on a square already occupied by another counter, that counter is captured and goes back to the four squares in the corner. That player has to roll a 6 again to get back into the game.

Home

To bring a counter home you have to land on an empty square of your home row. If that square is taken, you cannot bring the counter home. If you roll more than the number of squares left, count back from the end. If you land on an occupied square again, it does not work. In the meantime you still run the risk of being captured after all.

Winner

The first player with all four counters on the four squares of their home row.
