DISCO changed nightlife forever. But how did it all begin? What did Amsterdam sound like when the first disco records drifted in from New York? Who was there at the forefront when everything was still new, raw and exciting? And what remains of those nights filled with glitter, freedom and unapologetic dancing?
During this ADE Arts & Culture special, we dive into the history of the disco scene and the dawn of the DJ era. From pioneers and tastemakers to clubs like Vrijhaven and today’s festivals. We trace the journey from disco to house and ask ourselves: is that energy still alive? Do we still dare to embrace the disco spirit?
Expect stories, music, performances and fresh perspectives. We honour the past, question the present and celebrate everything in between.
