Looking for groovy disco dancers!

Do you have the best disco moves? Show us what you’ve got!

In the autumn of 2026, Wereldmuseum Amsterdam will open an exhibition dedicated to disco. This iconic music movement emerged in the 1970s in New York and grew into a worldwide phenomenon centered on freedom, inclusivity, and self-expression. From 9 October 2026 onwards, visitors will be able to dance their way through hundreds of songs, videos, artworks, fashion, and design pieces, experiencing the unifying power of disco within the museum.

Disco Dance Call

In October, we’re bringing disco to Amsterdam. We’re looking for dancers of all ages to include in our new disco exhibition. This exhibition will feature videos of the best disco dancers, and you can be part of it with your own video!

How? Show us your “time traveller”, “Mr. snake hips” or “elbow chop” and make a video that makes us dance.

Share your video with us via disco@wereldmuseum.nl before June 5 to get a chance to be included in the disco exhibition and receive an invite to the opening on October 9.

Requirements

  • Film your video in portrait format (9:16 aspect ratio).
  • Video length: maximum 40 seconds.
  • Make sure there are no more than three people in the frame.
  • Use a disco track from the 1970s.
  • Submit your video by 5 June.

You will be notified by 11 June at the latest if you have won. The first 50 entrants receive two invites for the opening of the exhibition on October 9 (please note: transport is not included).

This exhibition is adapted from the original presentation at the Philharmonie de Paris, where it was on view in 2025 from 14 February to 17 August.
