Wereldmuseum Is Looking for Your Disco Souvenirs!

Looking for your hot stuff!

In the autumn of 2026, Wereldmuseum Amsterdam will open an exhibition dedicated to disco. This iconic music movement emerged in the 1970s in New York and grew into a worldwide phenomenon centered on freedom, inclusivity, and self-expression. From 9 October 2026 onwards, visitors will be able to dance their way through hundreds of songs, videos, artworks, fashion, and design pieces, experiencing the unifying power of disco within the museum.

And your disco memories can become part of it! With your souvenirs and stories, you help us bring this unique culture back to life, if it ever truly went away.

That’s why Wereldmuseum Amsterdam is organizing a Disco Drop Off collection day for original Dutch disco memorabilia. From glittering jumpsuits and flowing dresses to platform shoes, statement belts, sparkling jewelry, nightclub tickets, or signed records, each item tells a story. Do you still have iconic pieces tucked away in your attic that you would be willing to lend to the museum?

Before 15 February, please send us a photo of your disco souvenirs (and we would also love to hear the special, personal stories behind them) to disco@wereldmuseum.nl. After an initial selection, you may be invited to the collection day in February. Do you know other people or groups for whom this call might be relevant? Please feel free to share this message!

This exhibition is adapted from the original presentation at the Philharmonie de Paris, where it was on view in 2025 from 14 February to 17 August.
