Artist Talk with Ekow Nimako

Afrofuturisme en LEGO®

On Thursday, October 30, artist Ekow Nimako will be a guest at Wereldmuseum Amsterdam. With more than one million black LEGO® bricks, he builds monumental sculptures that invite audiences into the realm of Afrofuturism. During this Artist Talk, Nimako will share how he imagines new futures through LEGO® and why his work resonates so strongly across the globe.

This program is part of Black Achievement Month and will take place in the Lichthal of Wereldmuseum Amsterdam.

An afternoon of imagination

The afternoon begins with a warm welcome and a drink. Ekow Nimako will then guide the audience through his creative process, from the earliest sketches to the monumental LEGO® sculptures that bring futuristic cities, landscapes, and stories into view. He will show how play, architecture, and Afrofuturism come together, and how art can open new ways of seeing.
After his presentation, Nimako will join a conversation led by Rita Ouédraogo, with space for questions from the audience. The afternoon concludes with the chance to experience Building Black Civilizations – The Nile 3025 CE up close in the exhibition galleries.
