Since 2014, Wereldmuseum Amsterdam, Leiden and Berg en Dal (formerly known as the Tropenmuseum together with Museum Volkenkunde and Afrika Museum) has been part of the National Museum of World Cultures (NMVW) Foundation. Museums about people, seeking to inspire an open view of the world and contribute to world citizenship.
In May 2017, Wereldmuseum Rotterdam joined the NMVW as a cooperation partner, sharing the same mission in addition to the collection.
From 4 October 2023, the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam, Afrika Museum in Berg en Dal and Museum Volkenkunde in Leiden continued together with Wereldmuseum Rotterdam under one name: Wereldmuseum.
Our objects tell you that in this world we laugh and love, celebrate and dance, cry and mourn, pray and fight. Our objects show you that in this world we give and take, cherish and destroy, dream and desire, create and change. Our objects prove to you that in this world we are human together, extraordinary and tragically imperfect but so beautiful at the same time. Our objects tell you that in this world we are different and yet also all the same: human.
